BC Conservatives announce Spending Smarter plan
VANCOUVER/CKNW AM980

3/1/2013

The B-C Conservatives have released a 3-point plan to reform the Legislature and give MLAs greater scrutiny over public spending.

It's called "Spending Smarter" and includes increasing the number of votes in the Budget Estimates each spring so there is a thorough analysis of financial outlays before they are made.

As well, the Conservatives would establish a new "Legislative Budget Office" to provide MLAs with independent analysis of complex financial and economic data.

And the B-C Conservatives would fundamentally revamp the fall sitting of the Legislature, to shift the focus to review the expenditure of public monies by Government, Crown Corporations, schools, universities, colleges and hospitals.

Most of that is already there just with a different name. Sounds like more government to me.

@Ron_26 Actually, it's a political party who sounds like they want to get control of where our tax dollars go. I actually like the sound of MLA's being held more responsible for OUR money.

The BC Conservatives are the only party who are planning on REAL changes to our how our province is governed and how our tax dollars are spent. Vote BC Conservatives!

Hey Cons, why even bother with this???
    haha.

@michael_4092 Because some folks can support neither the Liberal or NDP. My memory is more than 10 years long. Mr. Dix does not have the moral strength to govern.

@bctaxpayer It is too bad that people are unable to remember how poorly our economy was performing in the 1990s when the rest of the world was booming. I don't believe that policies can create a good economy however I think government policy can stifle what has the opportunity to be otherwise a growing economy.

I'm not old enough to remember the NDP government in the 1970s however (and speaking of corrupt), I remember the NDP stabbing their only moderate premier Mike HARCOURT after the Niniamo MLA was caught stealing charity money for the NDP.

I remember the NDP lying about their 2 so called balanced budgets in 1995 and 1996.

I remember the NDP wasting a lot of money on catamarans that did not work for the Naniamo to West Vancouver route.

I remember that after DOSANJH took control of the party, the NDP took a hard turn to the left and became even more socialist than before (if you can believe that). And then I remember how the NDP only won 2 seats in the following election.

I don't know if the BC Liberal party is corrupt but I do know that as the NDP did when they selected DOSANJH as their leader so the Liberals have done when they selected CLARKE as their leader and turned hard to the left.

For me there is only one option for those who believe that the successful people in this province should not be punished for just being successful. We have the track record of both major parties and it's not good.

I know the conservatives will not win but there is no other option for someone with a conscience.

bctaxpayer: We is "WHO"? You and Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home.
The NDP to run this province. I don't think so. I am making sure that Adrian Dix and his team will have to answer the question, "AND WHY SHOULD THE TAXPAYERS VOTE FOR THE NDP WHEN IN FACT THEY ARE DESTROYING MANITOBA AND NOVA SCOTIA".
Sending this to all Chamber of Commerce offices in the province, as they do most of the all candidates meetings.
It's time for the NDP to give some concrete HONEST answers, which they have not done in Manitoba or Nova Scotia.
NDP MANITOBA AND NDP NOVA SCOTIA EQUALS ADRIAN DIX NDP!

Yes something the Liberals and NDP could never come up with, that is why I'm voting Conservative in May, do you have any problems with that, what ideas has your party come up with other than to fill their pockets when governing! Where are the ideas folks!

Blowing off more gaskets and shooting from the hip, so frustrated, you cannot even reply to the proper person.

Note that you are condeming your buddy, bctaxpayer when if fact it should have been someone else.
