BC Liberals gather for pre-campaign event

2/23/2013

Election day is still months away but BC Liberals are rallying up the party faithful at a pre-campaign event.

The crowd cheered on as close to 50 candidates along with their leader - Premier Christy Clark - took to the stage this morning.

The Premier delivered a short speech saying she believes in a debt free future, a future - she adds - only the Liberals can deliver.

"we'll have money to improve and to ensure that our universities and our schools and our hospitals are amongst the best in the world, if we do that we'll be able to have a debate about which taxes we would like to eliminate, do we want get rid of the property tax? alright well lets have a debate"

Although recent polls suggest the Liberal Party is falling behind in popularity, the Premier and her team feel confident they can win those numbers back.

The NDP will also hold a pre-campain event Sunday in Burnaby.

If anyone believes that you and your spend party are going to get us out debt I have a bridge I would like to sell you, In ten year you have almost doubled our debt, according to your budget we will be close to 69 billion dollars in debt in 2 years and accumulating at a rate of 4-6 billion dollars a year by the time your so called gas revenues come on stream in 10 years we will be close to 100 billion dollars in debt not counting places like Hydro, BC Ferries etc. There will never be enough tax collected to get us out of this mess. Tax and spend is what you are and I thought that was the title of the .

What's the alternative Adrian Dix or John Cummings? We have just come off and still are in a WORLD economic disaster giving the public purse to mr.dix and moe SIHOTA and Jim Sinclair and the big unions is not the answer.john Cummings week to week doesn't know if he's got a party or not . This election is very important to the economy of this province four years is a long time please don't trust the NDP . I can hear the doors locking on small business now

@BrianD_7 I can't trust the Liberals, just too many lies and deceptions. At some point a party looses their way; that's were the Liberals are.

The NDP has every interest in promoting business. The only difference will be that they will LISTEN to the voters. Liberals don't do that anymore.

Sorry, I voted Liberal for years. I'm done for this terms.

@BrianD_7 It’s obviously you didn’t see the early 80s in BC when you couldn’t buy a job in this province and that was under a right wing government the Social Credit party

Notice how this site is catering to NDP supporters doing damage control to protect the NDP.
Reasons for this is that the B.C. NDP aren't in for a very good year. The NDP is a united party throughout Canada. One membership only is a membership to both the provincial and federal arm of the party.
Both Manitoba and Nova Scotia have NDP provincial governments. The voters in Manitoba returned the NDP to government on Oct 4, 2011, with the party winning the popular vote with 46 per cent to 43 per cent for the opposition Progressive Conservative party.

In its budget, the government gave Manitoba taxpayers the largest tax increases in 25 years. It has given up hope of balancing the budget.

Polls show that, if an election was held today, the opposition Progressive Conservative would win government with 43 per cent of the popular vote, to 39 per cent for the NDP government. It's a very sad state of affairs for a government that only won re-election in October of 2011. Manitoba is a "HAVE NOT PROVINCE"

The taxpayers in Nova Scotia voted in an NDP government on June 9, 2009, for the first time ever. It may also be the last.

The NDP won government with 45 per cent of the popular vote, compared to 27 per cent for the opposition Liberals. The NDP ran a election platfrom promising no tax increases. What happened?

There was an increase in taxes, and funding cuts to health and education. They raised the HST from 13% to 15%. Asked if they ever plan to get rid of the HST, Premier Darrell Dexter said NEVER!

Polls show that, if an election was held today, the opposition Liberals would form government with 41 per cent of the popular vote, with the NDP getting 29 per cent of the popular vote. The Nova Scotia NDP have given up hope in balancing the budget. Nova Scotia is a "HAVE NOT PROVINCE."

As taxpayers in Nova Scotia are so fed up with the NDP, the NDP government is holding off calling an election, and has stated that it might even go the full five year term before having to, by law, to call an election.

The NDP is known for one term governments, just like that of Dave Barrett in B.C. and Bob Rae in Ontario.

I don't believe that the B.C. NDP are happy about the upcoming B.C. election, because of what is happening under NDP rule in Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home and bctaxpayer can't come to admitting that this is the truth.

If you do the math, you will see that the NDP can only win government with 49% plus of the popular vote. They are far away from that magic number if you believe in polls. The only true poll is the once on election day.

Nine polls have come and gone in Canada in the last two years, and every poll has been wrong.

The Alberta legislature has only four NDP MLA's. Saskatchewan had a provincial election in November, 2011, and the NDP was the official opposition party going into the election battle with 20 seats at the time of the election call. After the election, they were down to only nine seats. Their leader also lost his own seat.

The NDP in Ontario has 17 NDP MLA's and is the third party in the province. Quebec, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island do not have one elected NDP MLA. Newfoundland has only five NDP MLA's.

Saskatchewan, once home to Tommy Douglas country, does not have one elected federal NDP MP.

The old saying is that business is in bed with the B.C. Liberals and the NDP are in bed with the unions.

There is a difference though. Business pays B.C. taxpayers pay cheques every second Friday, whereas the unions pay nothing.

Carole James once stated that she was going to tell Jim SinClair to stay out of the NDP business. That did never happen.

Governments are all the same, but some are better than others.

The upcoming election will tell us the truth. Just remember and ask yourself this question, WOULD YOU EVER TAKE BACK A FORMER SPOUSE FROM A PREVIOUS DIVORCE TO RE-CREATE THE NIGHTMARE, BUT ARE WILLING TO DO IT WITH GOVERNMENT.

If Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home, and bctaxpayer are correct in their predictions, here is what prediction means.

The NDP will begin destroying B.C. Their election call in 2017 will put them back to official opposition status, and a new coalition government will have to take drastic and unpopular measures once again like Bill Bennett of the Social Credit party had to do and Gordon Campbell had to do with the B.C. Liberals.

In summary, never blame the government. Blame YOURSELVES! YOU HAVE THE FINAL SAY IN WHO IS TO HAVE THE TAXPAYERS CHEQUE BOOK.

Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from, and bctaxpayer, admit to the readers that NDP MANTIOBA AND NDP NOVA SCOTIA EQUALS ADRIAN DIX.

@joes_2868 It seems you have ignored what is happening in Conservative New Brunswick. That province is located next to Nova Scotia-in Atlantic Canada.

Well, New Brunswick under Conservative Premier Alward is facing a deficit two times higher in 2012/14 than earlier promised. And, the deficit is expected to soar in the near future.

The situation is so desperate in New Brunswick that Premier Alward is considering raising the HST from 13 percent to 15 percent . (When that happens, the provincial portion of HSTwill rise from 8 percent to 10 percent).

Since HST@13 percent has not created enough jobs, has not subsidized business adequately, has not grown the economy and has not increased government revenue, New Brunswick has a growing deficit.

But, when HST is increased to 15 percent, all will apparently be well.

      However, there is one problem.

Mr. Alward is bound by legislation which requires voter approval via a refendum to impose new or higher taxes. If he holds a referendum proposing an increase to the HST, the voters will surely reject his proposal soundly.

BUT, ALL IS NOT LOST. All he has to do is to repeal the New Brunswick TAXPAYER's PROTECTION ACT.

After all, this is what the BC government did when it ran a deficit over the past 4 years. The BC government (LIberals) gave itself an exemption from the BALANCED BUDGET LAW.

Seriously I do not trust these Liberals and it seems the only people that come here are the ones that got the most to lose,if the NDP get's elected?did you have your finger in the pie, while you were at the trough.to hang on to a party that has done all they did to stick it to the people with arrogance and untruths, along with secret dealings with our money, meaning no transparency. To many cuts for business and the wealthy has brought in huge deficits and the more cuts, Now if i were to vote Con, they are the same people that ran away from the Liberals and never mention that here, they were Liberals running from the ship of fools and cheats! The pay out to Basi & Virk was the last straw, this give the stench of perceived trickery, to hide who was behind bribery, that no one was in charge in Government but Basi & virk! Then on top of that, no one was really punished! They work and have a good life. Please! Do I have to say more but join the Liberal/cons of the coalition, not in this lifetime! Go NDP Go

@joes_2868 Have a look at the latest poll. The polls indicate BC is stable. The commercials are true!

THE NDP MAINTAINS 17 POINT LEAD OVER THE BC LIBERALS.

Nearly 30 percent of Liberal voters believe it is time for a new government and party in BC.

It's all there in the GLOBE AND MAIL.

P.D: Funny, Moe leads a double standard of life just like Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles from home and bctaxpayer. These NDP'er's all preach one thing and do the opposite in their own lives when it comes to the hip pocket. That means everything Adrian Dix says is the opposite of what he really means. Go Liberals Go!

insite: You fail to mention that New Brunswick has a A- credit rating and is a "HAVE NOT" province, whereas B.C. is a "HAVE" province with a AAA- credit rating, second in the country next to Alberta who has a AAA credit rating. Even Saskatchewan, has yet to achieve this rating. It does not come over night.
I have done my own calculations, and my calculations show that the NDP can only win government with 49% plus of the popular vote.
I have also sent my calculations to Mario at Angus Reid of how I come to this conclusion.
If you want to see why I will be right, please listen to the May 14,2013 B.C. election results at around 8:45 pm. At that time, I will look forward to you to explain to the readers why the NDP lost the election.
In the meantime, keep up the NDP damage control, but it won't do much good.

@joes_2868 But, I have indicated that New Brunswick is led by a Conservative government and premier.

I expected all provinces led by a Conservative or Liberal government to have an triple AAA rating.

If those parties are so superior, ......forget it.

@joes_2868 You might want to do less cherry-picking of facts-especially, when your unwavering defence of your government's record leaves out factual details of financial mismanagement corruption in other provinces.

      Financia Mis-management?:

New Brunswick Premier Alward has proven himself incpable of managing his province's finances despite having the "superior and efficient" HST. The HST at 13 percent is not sufficient. He is consider raising this to 15 percent.

Over time, VAT (read HST in Canada) has been increased in every jurisdiction because it has not produced the promised economic benefits. In many European countries, VAT is well over 20 percent with Ireland leading the way.

      Corruption?

Former New Brunswick Liberal Premier Shawn Graham has resigned his MLA seat following findings that he was in a conflict of interest.

      Stay-at Home?

But, why go to other provinces for facts that raise questions of financial mis-management and corruption? And, stay current-our memories are fresher.

insite: Your comments about the Globe and Mail. These are the same comments made by the Globe and Mail in regards to provincial elections in Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario. The Globe and Mail was wrong in all three elections.

FACT: IF THE LIBERALS HAVE TO GO, THE NDP IS NOT THE ANSWER. CREATE AND FORM A NEW PARTY LIKE THEY DID IN SASKATCHEWAN WITH THE "SASKATCHEWAN PARTY" NOW IN THEIR SECOND TERM OF GOVERNMENT.

I DO NOT KNOW WHO YOU VOTE FOR, BUT IF IT IS THE NDP, THEN YOU ARE TWO FACED JUST LIKE KEN280, THE READERS CONSULTANT WITH A BRIEFCASE 50 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND BCTAXPAYER.

@joes_2868 "FACT: IF THE LIBERALS HAVE TO GO, THE NDP IS NOT THE ANSWER"

@joes_2868 The above was copied from your last post.

Sorry, but that was an opinion-not a fact. You and everyone else have the right and freedom to express an opinion. Even if an opinion is based on misinformation, it is valuable in our democratic electoral process. Right or wrong, people vote accordingly without fear. While that is a weakness in our democracy, it is also its greatest strength.

Unlike many other countries purported to be democratic, Canadians do not take to the streets in mass protests after an election. Life goes on-as it should.

Having said that, your FACT (above) may be more appropriate if you prefaced it with:

"IN MY OPINION, IF THE LIBERALS HAVE TO GO, ..." While others may disagree, they still need to respect your opinion and your right to express it.

At least, that is my opinion..
