The Coast Guard hovercraft from Sea Island has rescued a windsurfer who got into trouble this morning off Centennial Beach in Boundary Bay.

He was last seen at 9:30 and something went wrong with his rig.

The search began at 10:50am and he was plucked from the four foot seas just under an hour later.

Luckily this person was not wind surfing near Kitsilano.

@lindsaym_7673 What? About the same distance to Boundary Bay as it would be to Kitsilano . . .

It took them an hour to get there 1.5 meter waves sounds like they need a base at boundry bay as well.

It never ceases to amaze me the unrealistic expectations people have. If you take up sports like sailing, wind surfing, power boating, heli skiing, hiking and so on, you take an inherent risk. People that partake in these adventures accept that risk.

The closure of the Kits station is not likely to have any noticable impact on rescue operations in the area. The hovercraft is not stationed there. It will still be available, other boats will be available in Coal Harbour/Stanley Park. In fact you might actually find the Coast Guard out patrolling instead of sipping coffee indoors at Jericho.

I truly believe there are some people who complain for the sake of complaining. Other than the people whose jobs are immediately impacted, I just don't see what all the fuss is about. Those people will most likely be offered other jobs, severance or early retirement just like people in the private sector.

    What's all the fuss about?

@Newshound59 They say lives will be lost, but they cannot prove that lives will be lost until, and unless, someone's life is taken in close range of the Kits base.
