The provincial election is exactly three months away, but NDP leader Adrian Dix has already announced his pick for deputy minister should he win the race.

Dix has tapped BCIT President Don Wright for the job, which is the senior position in the public service.

Wright is a former deputy minister of education in the Gordon Campbell government.

@bctaxpayer It seems odd that the puppet masters would make this pick for Dix's announcement. A digruntled ex-liberal? Are there no qualified real NDP'rs?

bctaxpayer: How so? The NDP need 49% plus of the popular vote to form government!

@joes_2868 How did you arrive at that conclusion my friend.I believe that your analysis is seriously flawed.Vry few governments of any party receive 50% of the popular vote.I believe that threshold is rarely crossed. If I am mistaken,I genuinely hope to be corrected. So please explain.

I read Bill Tielman's article in Van 24 hours today - attempting to pull apart the Liberals TV ads. First he complains about the increased deficit and 2 paragraphs later, talks about BC Med premiums being a regressive tax that I am taking it - he thinks should be nixed.

Now, how do you plan to pay for the ever ballooning cost of medical in this province? Where does the NDP think the money is going to come from?

Wehre is that currently $2+ B dollars going to materialize from?

Taxes elsewhere will have to increase.

@TeriR "Where does the NDP think the money is going to come from?"

British Columbia will receive $100-250 billion from LNG royalties and a LNG tax. This bonanza will be loaded into the Prosperity Fund from which billions will be available for infrastructure and program expenditures.

So, there will be no need to ask the question: "Where will the money come from?" The money will be there. Not to worry.

BC LNG has eliminated this concern. ...at least, until such time that Asian countries discover that not only BC was blessed with an abundance of natural gas. It is likely that natural gas is locked into sedimentary basins all over the globe.

DougB_25: Suit yourself, but my I will stick to my formula calculation.

@joes_2868 But you are not calculating other political parties (two that come to mind are the BC Conservatives and the Green party. The Conservatives have picked up some momentum so I'd be inclined to say that they might get say 15% of the popular vote and up to 20% in the interior. Where does that leave your projections even if the NDP only manage 40% ?
    2. DougB_25 posted on 02/14/2013 09:55 AM
@joes_2868 LOL!! All in good fun.If nothing else, your magic "formula" is gutsy. I would say that ANY party that gets 49% wins a majority in BC.That well COULD be the NDP.But you do realize that they could also win a majority with about 42%.How are you going to cover your butt in the scenario? By saying they NEED 49% you are at risk of losing all your street creds.Unless you can "spin" as well as Tricky Dixie,no one will take you seriously again. In fact, people will REMIND you of this.FOREVER. It may be gutsy to be so certain. But not very wise,IMO. To funny ! Just one question. When you are proven wrong, are you going to be gutsy enough to admit it??? On here.In writing.

BlakeN: Compare my calculations with the actual voting at around 8:45 pm on May 14, 2013.
Remember the NDP retains opposition status if they don't receive 49% plus of the majority vote.
