An RCMP interrogation video entered as evidence at the trial of accused Stanley Cup rioter Spencer Kirkwood shows he appeared remorseful, but insisted didn't remember taking part in the riot.

An RCMP interrogator's interview video taped with Kirkwood has now been entered as evidence at his trial.

In it, Kirkwood tells the interrogator he doesn't need a lawyer, proceeds to explain he was excited about watching the Stanley Cup final the day of the riot, but he was drinking heavily at a Yaletown party and doesn't remember taking part in the riot.

He says he doesn't remember how he got home and he had 16 missed calls from his worried mother the next morning.

He also tells the interrogator a friend alerted him about the Facebook video and he cried when he watched it on his phone.

He says he freaked out and called his father, telling him "I think I'm in trouble."

He posted an apology promising to turn himself in, saying "I love this city" and he was disgusted with himself.

The interrogator asked if he wanted to say anything else and he said "I'm sorry, that's not me" and when he first saw the video he thought he was going to jail.

@NewKat you would have loved the "Reign of Terror" during the French Revolution.

Sure, he saw the video and then started planning how he could get out of going to jail.

Kirkwood should go to prison for what he did. I saw him on the news last night. His lawyer said that his client is "presumed innocent"--NOT if you have video evidence. The evidence is irrefutable! Don't waste taxpayers' money on a trial. He should have plead "guilty" and gone directly to prison! I don't know how his mother can show her face to the media. She must be so embarrassed by the boorish behaviour of her son.

@AldinaI Legal guilt is quite distinct from social guilt. The criminal law presumes people are innocent until the crown proves that persons guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Why do people have such a difficulty with that? Canadian's died for that principle in Germany throwing out Nazi's who presumed guilt of persons charged.

Don't get me wrong, these rioters embarrassed all Canadians, and if found guilty should be appropriately punished. My only point is that we should keep and open mind and let the courts do their job.
