A French citizen accused of injuring several people at a Vancouver apartment building on Thursday evening will be held in custody until he's been psychiatrically assessed.

Jerome Bonneric made a brief court appearance Monday morning looking confused and wearing a cast on his lower right arm.

Lawyer --Bob Bellows-- says his 33-year old client suffers from mental illness.

"Today's the first court day and I don't have the particulars yet from the prosecutor, so there's a huge amount of information that the prosecutor doesn't even have yet.

Bellows has confirmed his client was released from St. Paul's Hospital a couple days before the attack, but he could not say why he was there.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the French Consulate says they are offering Bonneric assistance because he is a native of France.

The 30-day psychiatric assessment will likely be approved by the judge on Thursday.

Isn't Adrian Dix from France? Connection...I think not! (I'm being sarcastic before Ken280 throws his 2 cents).

I don't know how much help the French consul can offer after the amount of carnage this guy did. He is a threat if he is released, that is clear.

How about some assistance back to France? We have enough of our own citizens to deal with.
