It was an emotional night for those who enjoyed the last show at a Kitsilano landmark Sunday.

The iconic Ridge Theatre is now closed, making way for new condo development.

The theatre has been screening movies at Arbutus Street and 16th Avenue since 1950.

Movie-goers say it’s a big loss:

“I'm really sad that's there's going to be almost no single screen movie theatres left in the city,” said one man.  Others said it was family tradition to come to the theatre—one they will miss.

Theatre Manager Steven Ferguson says the closure was inevitable as business started to drop a few years back.

In memory of the historic building, condo developers will incorporate the original Ridge sign into the new complex.

Sad to see the Ridge torn down for more condos.

    Isn't that area called Shaughnessy?
