Taxpayer group slams Transit Police
Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)

The Canadian Taxpayers' Federation is ripping Transit Police for looking offshore to fill at least a half dozen jobs.

Transit Police say they need officers with transit policing backgrounds  and the United Kingdom is a good place to look.

Jordan Bateman, BC director for the taxpayers' group, says they can easily hire locally.

"I know the Justice Institute is training officers. Transit police has over and over dipped into the retired pool of officers and hired officers who are on pension from VPD or RCMP and put them on staff, so it's a pretty amazing thing that they have to go overseas to go do that, especially when they're paying in the 6 figures to more than 60 of their officers."

He adds hiring overseas can be expensive - for example moving costs - which in the end lands on the taxpayer.

Not any different from Adrian Dix going out of province to get Brian Topp to be the NDP campaign manager when he can have Ken280, the readers consultant with a briefcase 50 miles away from home, bctaxpayer, and Mr. Ego himself, the one and only taxed to death.
    What comes around goes around.
Brian Topp is no idiot and will not be doing this job as a volunteer. Some good hard earned union money will be paid to him.

@joes_2868 Joey Joey Joey. At least a union is a democracy. You can go and vote on anything. Just because enough people don't get of their ass to go and vote at a union meeting is not enough to giggle as you right wingers do. At least, unions DO have a choice.

If there isn't the same amount of negative reaction to this hiring plan as there was to the Hd Mining plan to bring in Chinese miners , then I think some hard questions need to be asked about the extent of xenophobia that exists in BC

I think the BC government should place an onus on all companies working in BC to prove that they have tried their best to hire BC workers and Canadian workers before they go outside of Canada

If an American based company wants to hire a Canadian ,they have to explain exactly why they have to hire someone from outside the US and why they weren't able to find an equivalent person inside the USA

@ChrisM_18 Thank you. I think we also have to look at companies or even industries (autobody) that fail to hire apprentices to prepare for the companies future, and then cry to the government that their business will fail if the government doesnt import tradesmen for them.

BY_7463: If Adrian was to win government, why is it some taxpayers end up going to make a claim at the employment insurance office.
You never get to the point on anything!
Taxpayers know that business pays them a pay cheque and not the unions.

BY_7463: Taxpayers have done their consumer affairs on the NDP. You do consumer affairs when it comes to your hip pocket, but never with the NDP.
You are stuck in a double life style, but that is your problem.

You are one sick person when you believe that your hip pocket over rides your health.

    Intervention might help you.

taxed to death: At least I am not taking a water pill every morning like you, Ken280, the readers consultant, a man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home and bctaxpayer.
Don't deny that you don't because you do!

The cause is because of not doing your NDP consumer affairs.

Since the Falconator led a taxpayer funded entourage to London to "inspect' fare gates in the Underground, fare gates that we have now heard loud and clear won't stem fare evasion, it's only fitting that the overpaid Meter Maids of policing would hire British Transport Police to help deal with this latest Translink boondoggle. Seeing that our gas prices are now at $1.36 a litre is there any wonder why I'm off to Bellingham to fuel up at $3.25 a GALLON!!!! When will these calamities ever end?????? When will our politicians show some leadership???? Oh, I guess when we get them away from the trough!!!!!! Sad, really sad.

@gordp1205 And wasn't that report just put together by Plecas? One of clunky Clark's new Liberal start? Well Clunky how do you feel about him now...wish you had Moe Gill back Id bet!

@gordp1205 we are living through one of the most corrupt and inept provincial governments that BC has known . Unfortunately the light at the end of the tunnel is being held by a group of nitwit socialists who are going to spend this province back into a have not state

BY_7463: The readers have done their consumer affairs on the NDP. You have not.
Adrian Dix, Mike Farnworth, Bruce Ralston, Glen Clark, Robert Strachen, Elizabeth Cull, Andrew Petter, Dave Stupich, Dave Zirnhelt, Carole James, Ujjal Dosanjh, Mike Harcourt, Bob Williams, Moe Sihota, Dave Barrett, Joy MacPhail, Graham Lea, and the soon to arrive Brian Topp is all reasons why everybody should do their consumer affairs on the NDP.

You think the NDP will win the election? Then why is Adrian Dix not stopping damage control on Greg Selinger and Darrell Dexter?

You see, Ken280, the readers consultant, bought his new Ford a while back somewhere on the lower mainland.
It does not matter even if he bought the Ford in NDP Manitoba or NDP Nova Scotia. It is still the same Ford.
The same applies to the NDP.
You don't seem to care what is happening in Manitoba or Nova Scotia, but it is NDP and that NDP is the same as Adrian Dix.

BY_7463: Your unions. An example of what happened in Manitoba.
Unions supplied election workers for 13 NDP candidates.

The NDP campaign office paid the respective union the regular daily salary each worker would normally earn. The unions then kicked back the exact same amount as a "donation" so that the actual cost to the NDP campaign was zero.

The campaign agents for each candidate listed the workers as unpaid help-donations-in-kind-which are eligible for a legislated 50 percent susidy from the province. But the paperwork was first sent to a central auditor. There, the official election expense statements of the 13 campaigns were altered so that the union workers were listed as paid help.

The altered documents were returned to the official agents who, seeing no changes to the bottom lines, signed them and sent them in to Elections Manitoba. The trick was that now the NDP would be reimbursed from the public purse for half the "expense" of the union help.

The NDP were caught and their answer was that they made an accounting error.

Just a little too much corruption!

One really wonders that when the NDP destroys a province, people like you will not admit that you voted for them.
