Transit Police look to UK for new hires
Vancouver/CKNW(AM980)

2/2/2013

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are looking offshore to fill at least a half dozen vacancies.

The search will be focused on officers in the United Kingdom who have transit police experience.

Transit Police spokesperson Anne Drennan says there's a lot of competition among all police detachments to find suitable new hires.

"Both municipal departments and the RCMP all across the country are dealing with the same pool of applicants and it is a finite pool so it can be very challenging for all departments to try and fill the spots they have vacant."

Transit police are tweeting the opportunity: "You'll receive excellent pay and benefits - you won't be disappointed!"

    Why can't we hire locally?
What happened to training people and hiring in your local community first?
Get rid of the communist, corporate-controlled Liberals
Vote NDP, time to clean-up BC

    What a lame excuse.

Hire Canadians, the applicant pool is not that small.

Amazing that other professional can not come here to work but this crew wanted not to hire Canadian.

You have to be kidding? This a great idea, if you want a few more union shit disturbers. Or? Maybe it is the odour of nepotism? The transit screws are useless now, why add more uselessnessitivity?

What am I missing here- they are looking to hire transit cops. - not real cops !!!

This is an entry level position requiring just slightly more capability than a mall cop !!!!

How Translink ever got the idea that they had to hire ex-cops and pay them $100k per year is. Beyond me
    1. MicahC posted on 02/02/2013 09:09 AM
@ChrisM_18 Sometimes I agree with you and sometimes I don't.

This time I think you have typed without knowing what the transit police do. I hope you are not mistaking transit police for transit security.

Transit police complete the same training as Vancouver, Victoria, Delta and I'm sure other police departments through the Justice Institute.

Transit police investigate real crimes, deal with sudden deaths, take complaints from the public and go to court just as any other front line police officer does.

If the public do not want policing on the skytrain line, that can be debated however there is nothing not real about Transit police.

@ChrisM_18 You are correct, Quasi-Cops" they are, but still should be hired from the Canadian gene pool.

Did they asked Ken280 for permission? We must have qualified individuals with transit authority experience here in BC.

@commonsense They did but it was stacked with too many Liberal/cons of the coalition and did not want to hire Canadians, they want to starve out so we Canadians will work for food.Tonight on CBC Those of the right leaning should see the piece on what you right winged Zealots are doing to the future of Canadian kids, if you are real responsible have a look! Then hang your head in shame,it has been you guys of the Liberal/cons of the coalition/The new Conservative/Communist of the coalition , that led us down this garden path.Go NDP Go

What is transit police experience? Is that like being able to walk on and off a skytrain. Know where the closest Tim Hortons is at all times. What exactly are they looking for?

This is a head shaker. First we can't find miners except in China, now police officers from England? This reminds me of when they recruited a bunch of mechanics from Jamaica a few years ago. While thousands in Canada and the US were being laid off, apparently they could only find mechanics in Jamaica. I also wonder if the Jamaicans were included in the layoff of mechanics in the fall.

The tweet adds "you won't be disappointed", true until budget issues force you to be laid off in 3 years.

The real problem is those who are not Transit Police that should stay retired and double dipping aspire to join a true police agency.

Perhaps the Mexican federal Police might be next on their list.

That's great, my 21 year old, BC born & raised son can't find a job, but let's hire Chinese miners and UK "police" officers. How about training my son and giving him one of these overpaid "police" officer jobs? Heck, he'd settle for getting a job at a fast food place for now but they only ever seem to hire south Asians.
    1. BY_7463 posted on 02/02/2013 11:42 AM
@AndreaK_5056 Andrea. Unforunatly since the mid 1960' we have let our country go by the way side and down hill. And this is what we are now reaping. It's so sad.
    2. RoseH_1028 posted on 02/02/2013 04:53 PM
@AndreaK_5056 Has your son applied to get into the RCMP or the police academy. "How about training my son". What does that mean? Has your son tried to get some education or is he waiting for someone to take his hand and lead him. The reason they hire south South Asians is that they have a work ethic. Have you noticed how financially well off a lot of them are and have not been in our country for very long. They don't wait for handouts.

The vice-president of the B.C. Liberal Party is under investigation for failing to register as a lobbyist before contacting provincial government officials, including Jobs Minister Pat Bell, on behalf of a controversial Chinese investor.
The Office of the Registrar of Lobbyists in British Columbia said it is investigating whether Bill Belsey violated provincial lobbying regulations by working as an agent for Chinese businessman Ni Ritao and his companies, including Sun Wave Forest Products, the former owner of the Skeena Cellulose pulp mill in Prince Rupert.Go NDP Go

@StephenG_3 Well just for your info this hiring does fit right in with #bcjobsplan #workbc and even the ITA. The four target groups with the BC jobs Plan are youth, women, aboriginal and immigrant. UK policemen would fall under immigrant, so they fit right in to the grand scheme of WorK BC and BC Jobs plan. After all the Liberals are advertising jobs IN British Columbia not jobs FOR British Columbia.

WTF....you can't tell us there is no one with experience in the local area. there must be ex-cops looking for a cushiony $100,00 / year checking for fare evaders. who in their right mind came up with this outragues wage for checking for fare tickets ? . i do hope that once the faregates get installed that the quanitity of cops gets scutinized.

Looks like Translink wants to get in on the Temporary Worker Scam. You can pay the workers 15 per cent less and you own them because their visa is tied to their job. Bollocks! If you put out a call for officers you'd get HUNDREDS of applications.
  20. AlexK posted on 02/03/2013 02:08 PM
Holy crap ,,,really ? I sorta got the hiring of retired cops at first due to getting some experience on the new force but now they can certainly find some local talent ! Nothing suprises me in this province , born and raised I can not believe the amount of immigrant labour that has pooled into this province and helped the Liberals keep the wages down for their rich buddies. Nothing against planned immigration but look around. The right wingers always say business can not find labour but what they really mean is business can not find labour the will work for the paltry wages they expect to pay. Hence bring in more workers.

The three people that believe their hip pockets are the most important in life will be applying for the job openings.
They will be Ken280, the readers consultant with a briefcase 50 miles away from home, bctaxpayer, and the Mr. Ego himself, taxed to death, who cannot sleep properly if he cannot be the centre of attention in all of B.C.

FORMER NDP STOOGES WERE GLEN CLARK, DAN MILLER, AND UJJAL DOSANJH.
TODAY THE THREE STOOGES ARE KEN280, THE READERS CONSULTANT WITH A BRIEFCASE 50 MILES AWAY FROM HOME, BCTAXPAYER, AND MR. CENTRE OF ATTENTION, TAXED TO DEATH.

We have a BC Justice Institue for training, this is a disgrace!

How hard can it be to train a ticket checker! Paid over a hundred grand a year to check tickets.

Transit Police do NOT take 911 calls!! Someone from the media check it out, call 911 and ask!!
  23. FrankM_7944 posted on 02/04/2013 09:03 AM
    @
Transit cops do NOT take 911 calls, as they have the highest paid dispatchers in Canada that are NOT trained on 911. Check it out for yourself; wages from accross Canada are clearly published.

On Skytrain or a Bus, call 911; "what city please"
"I am on Skytrain, nearing Metro Town, guess who attends BURNABY RCMP! I am on Skytrain nearing Waterfront Station, guess who this time VPD!

And imagine if you had to wait for them to attend to your crime on Skytrain; if they are travelling on transit, (like they are supposed to be), it would take too much time to travel to the crime scene!

Transit Cops pass off the serious files to VPD, RCMP, New West, ect. They are over-paid ticket checkers, PERIOD,
