Skeena MLA has biggest travel bill
VICTORIA/CKNW (AM980)

Taxpayers spent some 2.3 million dollars shuttling their MLA's around in the first nine months of the fiscal year.

So says an updated travel expense report on the legislative assembly website.

The highest biller was New Democrat MLA Robin Austin, who rang up 75-thousand dollars in travel.

Austin represents the distant Skeena riding.

Many of the highest bills are from MLA's in large and distant rural areas.

NDP leader Adrian Dix billed for 51-thousand dollars in travel, while Premier Christy Clark's bill comes in at only 35-hundred dollars.

Much of the Premier's travel is paid for through her office, which shows that as of November,  Clark had spent 57-thousand on travel.

And what do our three stooges say about this? Shortly we will see some major gasket blowing from Ken280, the readers consultant with a briefcase 50 miles away from home, bctaxpayer, and taxed to death, all putting the blame on the Liberals.

@joes_2868 its easy to throw a number out to the public. In all fairness what is required is a breakdown of the billing to determine where money was spent and was it justified. Its impossible to comment otherwise

LeonW: Are you telling the readers that if you were in politics, it would be different? Yeah right!

What is your comment going to be if Adrian Dix does form government, and the news headlines in B.C. in Dec 2013, will read:

Adrian Dix spends $251,000 in 7 months for travel expenses.

Allison Redford, premier of Alberta spent $151,000 on just two trips, one to London and one to India.

It is called politics and you can be assured, you would do the same if given the chance, including Ken280, the readers consultant with a briefcase 50 miles away from home.

Ken280, would also sneak in some personal expenses for the B.C. taxpayers to pay.

There is nothing we common people can do about it!

NDP, Green, Liberals, Conservative, etc. No difference.

The present NDP opposition MLA's are having a great time. All of them have expenses to Sept 30, 2012 with totals higher than cabinet ministers.

How about ALL the trips risky Clark and Pammy took ? you people who make up these stories please take a bit of math and learn to add. Risky Clark only spending 3500 $$$$ what a joke. I know risky spent 15 million $$$$$$ from BC tax payer's. Risky is Not to be trusted under any circumstances, none.

I think they should limit the number of trips they can make to and from their respective ridings. It would force them to work harder and more efficiently. It would also set an example for the bureaucrats working under them. On another note, maybe they wouldn't be travelling so much if they were actually in the legislature. Anybody remember the last time this government actually sat? I would love to know, seems like a long time ago.

@AlfredO It's not always the amount of travel that creates the high cost, but when they decide to fly. You book in advance you often save more money than booking that very day.

Although I question the Liberals on many issues, this is the kind of thing the Auditor General should be concerned about. The media never gives all the facts. What seems initially outrageous may have a legitmate reason. You know what they say, the strongest opinions come from those with the least information!
