Port Moody Police say faulty breathalyzers were used in 2011.

On its website the police department says the results of a independent investigation have determined faulty breathalyzers were used in 14 out of 174 roadside tests administered that year.

The police department requested the investigation  out of concern some of the roadside screening devices were improperly calibrated.

The results of the investigation have now been forwarded to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles.

I'm not a lawyer but... will this give reasonable grounds for refusing a breath test?

I hold the police harmless, and the current provincial government entirely accountable.

The short cuts that they have legislated not unlike the NDP photo radar program is seriously flawed.

The police in Abbotsford expressed the same concerns not that long ago when a member tested a device and it indicated he was impaired.

The only problem was that he was about to commence his shift and promptly reported the incident.

I think that this entire program has serious flaws and as long as Squirlie Shirley is the cabinet minister responsible things will not change.

Worse is that there are some police members out their that strive to belong to an elite club for recognition of impaired drivers apprehended.

The only problem is that a proper answer and defense is not afforded an accused under the current system.

I am all for apprehending impaired drivers and penalizing them, but my goodness do it fairly with dependable devices.
