A BC man who threatened a bus driver last fall has been sentenced to probation.

Brandon Joseph Johnson was charged after an incident on a bus in New Westminster.

On October 18th, transit police allege the 30-year-old beat up a female passenger when she asked him to quiet down, and then threatened to punch the driver if he didn't let him off the bus.

The female victim had to get stitches inside her mouth and on her face.

Johnson has pleaded guilty to uttering threats, but a charge of assault causing bodily harm has been stayed.

Court records say he has received one day in jail and two years probation.

Police say he is well known to them, and was convicted of assaulting a bus driver back in 2006, and a police officer the year before.

    Typical Canadian System....

Plead guilty to the lesser offense and we will drop the more serious one, then you can get a ridiculously light sentence on said lesser offense....

Maybe if we had concurrent sentencing, he'd be pleading guilty to the Assault CBH charge and getting off on the Uttering threats to avoid further jailtime.

Lame system that has let down that female passenger.

So why isn't an animal like this in jail? He obviously cannot control his violent impulses.

Why was the charge of assault causing bodily harm stayed ?

What more evidence do the prosecutors need ?

@ChrisM_18 I pondered that myself,- her injuries were obviously more than temporary; but I'm confident that not every aspect of this case was reported. It may be that the victim did not show for trial, did not want to give evidence, and that without it the crown's case was weak.

his is the problem with reporters, they do not provide enough accurate information to help the public understand.

Ahhh....... the Canadian Legal System hard at work ...... and to think they claim there just aren't enough hours in a day !! I could probably train a six month old chimpanzee to hand out sentences like these.

Nah, even the chimpanzee would know better.

Imagine if that girl was your daughter, or your sister, or your girlfriend, or your gran-daughter or your mother or just a good friend. All I can say is I sure wish I was on that bus when this went down !!!

Prosecuters like this are called DUMP TRUCKS for a reason. For many reasons they think they are so hard done by so any case that requires a little extra effort on their part is plea bargained to the easiest outcome. Screw the victim, they don't matter in all of this.
Of course this lawyer would also wait to get a judge that either felt sorry for the accused and let him (her) off or blame the victim(s) for being on the bus.

If this so-called man gets one measly day in jail for a crime he has repeated several times since 2005, where is the deterrence? He is going to continue to do what he's done for years--hurt people--and get away with it. Our so-called justice system is the laughing stock of the world. Bring back the death penalty for this kind of repeat offender. We waste too much food and water keeping this type alive.

@AldinaI Sheesh !!! Its awfully hard to read that this is said in jest !

Previous sentencing obviously didn't deter him, so when will protecting the public from him enter into the judges sentencing? Why not give him a serious stretch in prison where others like him will beat the crap out of him on a regular basis?
