A surprising admission from Education Minister Don McRae - he says he didn't know the B-C Teachers Federation and the Public School Employers Association were reaching a deal on how to carry out bargaining for a new contract, at the same time his government was coming up with its 10-year contract plan.

McRae told CKNW's Bill Good this morning, "We basically put together a document, a framework for conversation, and yes i guess there was a little bit of misundertanding.
It wasn't grandstanding, we just wanted to make sure we got the information out there as soon as possible.  But I didn't find out they're going to be talking about this until it was released in the media after the week before on the saturday I believe it was."

On the weekend the union and employers' association ratified the plan that will see bargaining begin one week from today.

It's pretty sad to hear that our Minister of Education has no idea what the Public School Employer's association (his responsibility) and the Teachers union are doing/working on. Sad.

@Fate It sure is. Mind you, listening to the interview, this story (especially the headline) has taken his comments out of the context of the interview. NW likes to take one sentence and stand it on it's own to create a whole new story.

Apparently, there are several government representatives appointed to the BCPSEA. It does not mean that those appointees have to keep the Minister of Education in the loop.

@insite True enough. That said, if these government appointees failed to communicate a process that has been ongoing for months and months, a process that impacts bargaining due to begin this spring, then they should have their priorities straightened out!

I think the Minister's comments are less than honest...either that or he is not qualified to be the Minister.

"He didn't know" WOW. What are we paying for, as THE TOWN DRUNK said, the brightest and the best, and he didn't know what seems like a basic thing. Doesn't he talk to people that are under his watch????
Seems like a typical LIE BERAL. Bet he knows where the free food line is though.
Also looks like he goes to the same barber as Kevie "Hairboy" Falcon!!!!!!

The Minister of Education doesn't know what's happening in his Ministry? Is there any organization in the Liberal ranks? Doesn't make me have a lot of confidence in their ability to govern
