There is still no progress to report on the negotiations over the cost sharing of the RMCP's new Surrey headquarters.

Justice Minister Shirley Bond is repeating the province will only pay what is fair.

"The issue of Green Timbers continues to be a priority for us and again in my recent meetings in Ottawa this was a topic of discussion with the Commissioner and with Minister Toews. We have made it clear we are not going to be paying for space that we don't believe that we should be responsible for so yes there are ongoing discussions."

Bond did say it is time to stop tackling rcmp cost concerns piecemeal and begin to deal with them all together.

The Green Timbers headquarters cost 263-million dollars to build but other expenditures, like financing, push it over a billion dollars.

The cost will be split between BC, Ottawa, and local governments.

You have to wonder what the cost for installing the members only 1500 seat pub was ? The Cocked Stetson pub is a bloody outrage - but like everything else the RCMP do it their way and don't really care a whit about what the locals think !,

Once again the right wingers give tax dollars to companies like Dutch Shell and expect the middle class to pay for neccessary services, what a joke!

We were foolish for renewing the contact with the RCMP in the first place.

In the lower mainland we need a regional police force as stated by many.

The provincial government did not have an apparent clear and concise plan "B" in place during the negotiations.

The RCMP should get out of community policing, and not unlike both Ontario and Quebec stay with enforcement of federal statutes.

Truly disgusting how this entire issue has been dealt with from start to finish.

@RonE_1902 Its akin a individual buying with cash or in installments - the instantaneous hit is less but over the long run the total cost is higher. Our politicians don't have the stomach to pay the startup costs for a new police force.

from 263 mil. to over 1 bil. 700 mil. in expenditures, but it's still a good deal for b.c. right.
