The BC Teachers Federation and the BC Public School Employers Association will vote Saturday on a new deal potentially changing how bargaining works.

While the BC Teachers Federation has said they will recomend ratification to its members, BCPSEA is playing coy.

Spokesperson Mel Moy says, "we are just going to go into the discussion this weekend and we are going to see how it goes. The two parties met and came to this agreement and i think that is a very positive thing but we will be going into that discussion on Saturday."

If both sides ratify the deal bargaining will begin February 4th.

The deal would bring a facilitator into the talks right from the start and require both sides to exchange proposals within a month of talks starting.

Regardless of how the BCPSEA votes, Christy Clark has already hijacked a framework tentatively agreed upon by the chief negotiators of the respective parties. If the BCPSEA vote In favour of the bargaining agreement, she is now in a position to scuttle it,

Mission accomplished. She wants to ensure that the acrimony between the government and the BCTF is maintained.

She is the last person who wants peace in the classroom. One just has to look at her record.

@insite Why wouldn't she want peace though? All governments do. They don't want to kiss ass, bend over or anything, but they do want peace.

I'll go out on a limb here and predict that the teachers are going to vote this down !

@ChrisM_18 The teachers attending this weekend's Rep Assembly voted unanimously in favour of the new bargaining framework that was developed together with BCPSEA. Hopefully the BCPSEA AGM this weekend will see a vote in favour of this framework as well.

Have you noticed that heads of some educational facilities(other than schools) are now suggesting that we should' be training BC students for BC jobs not Ontario Jobs.

What a novel idea! Only one problem...the Jobs Plan isn't creating the jobs that require these skills. Ontario should be very pleased that their job openings are being filled by workers trained in BC.

@insite Have you missed that Ontario doesn't have job openings?

This new framework has now been unanimously approved by the teachers attending the RA, and has also been approved by BCPSEA at their AGM this weekend.

@DougF_4971 Unfortunately, until the Liberals are defeated, CC will not allow the 2013 negotiations to proceed as agreed upon by the BCPSEA and the BCTF.

Because the negotiations to proceed as agreed upon will not fit in with her election agenda.

The best approach, however, will be to allow this new framework to unfold as agreed upon. In other words, give the BCTF and the BCPSEA a chance to reach a new contract.

Sadly, that will not be allowed to happen. Hopefully, this perspective will turnout to be unfounded
