Richmond RCMP officer gets suspended sentence
RICHMOND/CKNW(AM980)

A Richmond RCMP officer --charged with assault causing bodily harm last summer-- won't face any jail time after being found guilty of a lesser charge.

Inderpal Bal's conduct was questioned by other officers at the scene of an arrest made in January of last year after which the victim needed hospital care.

A formal charge was laid in July after Surrey RCMP took over the investigation.

A provincial court judge in Pichmond has now found him guilty of the lesser charge of assault.

Bal's been handed a suspended sentence, he must serve six months probation and he's been ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

No word yet on whether he's facing any disciplinary action following an internal code of conduct review.

Now this is just one more reason to get rid of the corrupt RCMP and bring in a provincial police force

For one it`s Richmond not Pichmond! The beginning of a 20 year RCMP contract, oh joy. Not knowing that he will face disciplinary action is disturbing because, does he not have a `criminal record`???

And Richmond will be on the hook for his severance too if he is let go.....
Imagine a world where it was the RCMP rather than the Delta police came across an allegedly drunk RCMP member who just killed a motorcyclist.

What is a victim surcharge ? If I take a swing at someone can I avoid jail time by offering them compensation to the tune of fifty bucks ?

The actions of the RCMP members continue to serve as an example of how not to build trust with the people you serve.

The actions of the legal system , in ensuring the RCMP members never get punished for their outrageous behaviour , stinks of an old boys club covering for their members.

Nice white wash job on how this one was handled.

Did anybody read the news release here?

"Inderpal Bal's conduct was questioned by other officers at the scene of an arrest made in January of last year after which the victim needed hospital care."

I think that if a police officer's conduct is questioned by other police officers then that would not constitute a cover up or old boys club.

@MicahC The other police officers may have questioned the conduct - but he still got off with 6 months probation courtesy of a Provincial judge, where as you and I would probably got a harsher slap on the wrist if we had done the same thing.

@MicahC Yes I read the media release.

While the other members in attendance questioned his actions the courts have made no deterrent value at the time of sentencing.

Might be your turn next and I surmise you would not be pleased after street justice is dispensed upon you by rogue police members.
