The Christy Clark Government has announced a big investment for a new state-of-the-art space for fine art students.

Emily Carr University has outgrown its home on Granville Island.

That campus was designed for only 800 students, officials say, while the school currently has enrolled 1800.

Premier Christy Clark says the government will contribute 113-million dollars with the remaining 21-million coming from other donors.

She touts it as a big pledge for creative skills training.

Construction is set to begin at the centre for digital media on Great Northern Way in east Vancouver in May 2014.

@Ken280 Better than the Dippers would do! Dippers would just give money to the union slobs at twice the cost.

      @bctaxpayer It's spelled corrupt.

Again, this was a 2008 promise made when the University 2020 report was made. Emily Carr's current buildings, even in 2008, were too small to house the students. This plan was spoken about long before Christy. Do your research.

More important is making sure these graduates (from all schools) have realistic job opportunities... so stop killing the film industry, stop throwing money into BC Place and Port Mann black holes because of pathetic project management...

What is BC doing to attract business? Are we competitive with Seattle? The rest of north America?

The liberals, after pillaging arts funding for the last 8 years are trying to make it look like they are investing in arts funding when really they are giving back to Phil Hochstien and company $113 million of our tax dollars before they are toast. $113 million of $134 million you're not fooling anybody Christy.

WOW! I'm actually in shock regarding all this money flying around the last couple of days.

Then I thought, Oh yeah, most unions have ratified and accepted the "no money" but ended up with 1 or 2%

Now that they have ratified, she has found all these millions and millions or YOUR money folks. For a Bollywood party and to build and move Emily Carr.

    ISN'T THAT AMAAAAAAAAZING??????

Please make sure to sound your outrage like you did when unions were threatening strike action and most of you said "how dare you with OUR money!:

Come on, let's hear that outrage!!!!

@michael_4092 Well said! I don't know whether I should cry or laugh. Christy Clark sure knows how to "buy" votes with all OUR money.

I am one of those union members who got ZERO for a raise on our last "collective" agreement. Where did all this money suddenly come from?

For all the parents who have children freezing in portables, patients awaiting surgery for months upon month, people living on the street.....and on and on...you must be elated with this stund (explative)...someone please pull the pin on this sociopath..

113 million....really, and your complaining about the coast guard base?

She is going to bankrupt us at this rate...it's beyond comprehension for a party that according to the AG can't balance a budget and has questionable accounting practices.....May just can't come quick enough

Good stuff! The BC Liberals obviously no the priorities and that is to provide educational facilities for all. Not like the NDP who never did anything in the Education area. Kudos to Premier Christy Clark.
