The provincial NDP candidate for Boundary Similkameen has suddenly resigned her candidacy effective immediately.

The provincial NDP are not saying much after the candidate in Boundary Similkameen suddenly resigned.

NDP provincial secretary Jan O'Brien was asked why Marji Basso threw in the towel effective immediately.

"Well the extent of my comment is that our candidate in Boundary Similkameen decided to resign for personal reasons."

O'Brien was then asked if the party had any concerns about Basso prior to recieving her resignation letter.

"As I said we recieved a letter on Sunday from the candidate in Boundary Similkameen stating that she was resigning for personal reasons and we accepted that resignation."

O'Brien did call the situation disappointing but added the party will now move to find another candidate.

"We will be working with the local NDP constituency association to set up a candidate nomination process as quickly as possible and we will be doing some candidate recruitment."

Boundary Similkameen MLA John Slater also threw in the towel today saying he is the subject of a smear camapign and he will not run again after all

Ken280: Your thoughts to the readers.

@joes_2868 Ken280 doesn't have thoughts, he has unintelligible rants. He's nothing more than an old bully, incapable of mature discussion. Disagree with him or attempt to educate him and you will be called "you people... Liberal/con of the coalition" (whatever the hell that means?). Clearly this man is teetering on the edge of insanity.

@joes_2868 Average economic growth under the NDP governments of the 1990s was three per cent -- that's far better than the BC Liberals' two per cent. Under the "socialist" NDP, corporate profits rose by 251 per cent, exports jumped 107 per cent, the provincial Gross Domestic Product was up by $51 billion -- a 63 per cent hike -- and capital investment rose 35 per cent.
The BC Liberals actually received five equalization payments from Ottawa in a decade totaling over $2.7 billion. The NDP? Just one of $125 million. seems the Liberals are floating in water or booze! Go NDP Go!

Kudos to the Liberals for dealing with an MLA and/or a candidate who had or has personal problems of an apparent unknown reason.

The party has always demonstrated that it would not tolerate behavior contrary to public values???? Or, am I wrong?

@insite For an MLA that has served his party well, he deserves more respect support than this.

It really would have been helpful if there was a reason published, rather than just slide into the Slater Shake and Bake, the poor b^gger. One of the N-Dub people willl find out, or maybe Alex. He doesn't pull no fast ones and shoots from the hip.

@RegA [deleted] Sometimes we just need to respect their privacy. Although it's interesting that this NDP candidate stepped down shortly after Alex's cry out.

the Liberals smeared John Slater because that's all that party knows how to do

@tedw_5037 Yes, the Libs are good at smearing, but only others. If they want something to 'smear' why not smear Coleman. That would really keep the party busy. Can you imagine what comes up in some of their strategy meetings? Can't wait for election night.
