We'll find out next week how the newly-tolled Port Mann Bridge will be further 'winterized' to protect commuters from falling ice.

Transportation Minister Mary Polak says plans are in the works for short and longterm improvements and the contractor --Kiewit-- is paying for all of them.

"We have specified in our contract the requirements for the delivery of the bridge and that includes ensuring that there are design elements that prevent the build-up of ice and snow on the cable stays."

As for what exactly will be done to make the bridge more safe, we'll have to wait until Monday for the details.

In December, dozens of vehicles were damaged by chunks of falling ice causing numerous crashes and prompting promises from the operators to cover the cost of repairs.
