One man has been arrested after four others were shot last night during a gathering in Richmond.

Police have confirmed they arrested a man shortly after gunfire erupted in a crowd of about 150 people at the Riverside Banquet Hall.

It happened after some men at a party to welcome new members to a local Longshormen's union got into an argument.

One arguer was shot as were three other men who tried to intervene.

They were taken to hospital, some in critical conditon but police say all four are stable.

Mounties add this shooting is not related to this week's gunfire in Surrey, but they're still determining whether or not it's linked to gangs.

The president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union of Canada says it was a private party to welcome new members, not a union-sanctioned event.

Was it a Birthday party interrupted by gunfire or a banquet party celebration for Longshoremen on being accepted into the union. ?

Hey Bieber stoner… if you have very limited knowledge about something, you should not open your mouth, Long gun registry was a white elephant, even cops said it is not reliable, going into any house police officers have to assume there is a gun in that house… who did it help no one… here is a news flash for you, criminals never used long gun registry or registered guns to commit crimes, as it would be easy to track them back to the owner…

@AmarS_5 Sorry, you are incorrect. Police across the country were in favour of retaining the registry.

@AmarS_5 thats ok, we all have opinions... not everything needs to be blamed on gun owners was my point.. but i think society needs to change instead of being bleading heart librals, we need to use harsher sentences, if they want to kill eachother i am ok with that.. but not one innocent person needs to die over this.

Actually WDW the Chiefs of Police were in favour - the average officer said it made no difference...married to an officer and his position was always very loud and clear...not in favour

If we had the NRA Canada, they would be telling us about now that if everyone in the hall was armed, the outcome would have been much better. And that our government has already taken away our "freedom" by outlawing full-auto assault rifles.
