Vancouver looking at overhauling snow removal plan

The City of Vancouver has passed a motion to revisit their snow removal plan--but unfortunately, it won't affect response to ice and snow this winter.

Councilor George Affleck says city staff will be putting together a report on route priority.

This after bike lanes were cleared before some bus routes during a snowfall in December.

"We have a document on snow removal in this City, but I think it needs improving.  It doesn't really delegate which ones are prioritized, which routes and which areas, categories are most important.  It lists them, but doesn't prioritize them."

Affleck says recommendations most likely won't be ready until mid-February, when Vancouver’s winter weather is already over.

Only in Vancouver ! _nused bike lanes are cleared of snow before bus lanes ( and by inference car lanes)

Someone is looking to make a good impression with Mayor Moonbeam !!

@ChrisM_18 Another report by the Liberal/Cons of the coalition. They have to deflect any and all away from the Liberals. Chris and Thumper Joe are walking all the bike lanes to verify that all are cleared of snow and this is because the mayor was with the NDP, what a hypocrite! You Listen to Bruce Allen too much.

You people in Vancouver deserve everything that you are getting from this Mayor. You had a chance to remove him from office and failed. Now you will have to put up with his nonsense for the remainder of his term He has made Vancouver the LAUGHING STOCK of Canada. You people in Vancouver should revolt and remove him like the way the people of this province removed Gordo.

@RalphL_2 Am I ever glad I moved away...this clown is making Vancouver the laughing stock in the world, not just Canada. He is also making Chinatown a drug city...since he's in charge of this beautiful city, more shops in Chinatown closes than before...There is no leadership in this clown...only liability.

I'm always amazed at theses bubble heads running this city. But no snow removal plan in a city that boasts most of the new drivers in the country who have no clue how to drive in snow. Some how I'm not surprised. In Toronto the snow removal equipment is lined up ready to go when snow is pending 24 -7 all over the city with bob cats doing the sidewalks ready for morning rush. I guess city hall enjoys the negative press when asked where's the snow plows!!

City running out of $. From a City Staffer, departments will not act unless someone (tax payers, you, me, Vancouverites), call them to make a complaint against, snow removal, land scaping, fixing lights, fixing streets etc.... so call them lots and call them often to get things done!
Instead of installing traffic devices and marking bike lanes on Main Streets, where Ontario is like 2 blocks away, save that $ and clear snow when it is required, or upgrade a community centre, or playground.
Next time you get to vote, don't stay home, City politics is where it is felt most!

Mercifully I'll be retired in 2 months and no longer have to make the drive into Vancouver from Pitt Meadows, a trip I've been making since 1977. I will have virtually no reason to come into Vancouver and no longer have to suffer the traffic chaos, excessive parking fees, lunatic bike riders and farcical snow clearing situation.
Vancouver, you voted to re-elect Moonbeam, you're welcome to him and his band of buffoons, finally I'll be rid of him.

Ken280: Likewise, Ken, you listen to Bruce Allen too? Don't deny it! It helps you out in making your consultant decisions.
Remember a pain in your left arm is cause for concern, and now that we are getting closer to 8:45 pm on May 14, 2013, the pain can get more intensive.

AlanN_5121: You are so correct. The major problem with Gregor Robertson is that he served his apprenticeship under Carole James instead of our reader's consultant, Ken280, our man with a briefcase 50 miles away from home.

@joes_2868 Let's find the posts where Ken280 actually made sense, was contributing to the discussion, did not put down non-socialist supporting parties and made sense. It'll just take 1 posting, but we'll be here a long time.
