Pharmacies remind you to return, not trash, your old medications

The BC Pharmacy Association and the provincial government want to remind you how to safely dispose of your prescription drugs.

Caren Heughan, a pharmacist in Victoria, says the start of the new year is a good time to clean out the medicine cabinet.

And she says many people are surprised to learn they shouldn't just toss their prescription drugs into the garbage.

"Medications are potent drugs, and we don't want them winding up in the landfill or dumped down the sink into the water supply. They really do need to be disposed of safely."

Heughan says used and expired prescription meds can be returned year-round to almost all local pharmacies in b-c for proper disposal.

The pharmacy association, province and Metro Vancouver launch this year's return campaign today.

Do you really think the expiry date is for our safety OR
do you really think it is so the REAL DRUG PUSHERS (pharmaceutical comps) can to rule the world?
They (most recently the Army) has done studies and the expiry dates do nothing to the meds.......

Expiry dates - just to drum up new business
See Car Tires - new expiry date rules ......tire guys will not touch them after 10 years - even if you have a flat or rotation......

Talk about missing the point! Your extra unneeded drugs could be a danger to the environment so they should be appropriately disposed of!
You folks need replace your aluminum hats with ones that haven't expired.

@Ron_26 Seeing as things like acetaminophen are showing up in our water, it's a timely reminder. Sounds like medication for paranoia is in order for some people.

Ken280: That applies to you Ken. All those water pill prescriptions in your consultant's briefcase for high blood pressure.
Ken, as Reality Check stated earlier, you have to start writing better articles instead of repeated B.S.
Kevin O'leary is a millionaire, you are not! HE SAID YOU HAVE TO DO RESEARCH BEFORE PUTTING YOUR COMMENTS FORWARD.

PLEASE DO SO FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE READERS!
