A man ended up accidentally shooting himself with his own gun while chasing what he believed to be a suspicious vehicle in his Surrey neighborhood.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Blair McColl says they were called out to 70A Avenue at 125th Street just after 8 last night.

"The investigation is continuing, but at this point we're not looking for anybody else.  We have seized the firearm."

As for whether the gun was registered to the man, McColl says that's part of the investigation.

McColl says the man may have responded with the gun because he believed his neighbor’s home had been broken into recently.

He is expected to be fine.

So - a couple of questions need to be asked here

1 - Why would he not call RCMP first if he thought there was suspicious activity going on ?

2 Why would he consider using a gun as a means with dealing with the people involved in suspicious activity ?

If he is a registered firearms owner - I think someone should question whether he is the right type of person that should have a permit to own a gun. We don't want Canada turning into a US equivalent of the wild west !

He's expected to be fine? I'd say he's got a few loose screws that need tightening.
Note to self: Don't walk the dog near 70A Avenue at 125th St.

    ChrisM

We will probably never hear the details because the media wants to seel you the sizzle, not the steak.

You have posed two very good questions although perhaps for the wrong reason. I too would like to know why residents of this area don't contact police.

If he was carrying a shotgun or a rifle, it would not require registration.

I assume you meant to say "Canadian equivelant" in your last sentence, however, it should be noted that in the period of time that is regarded as the "wild west" (1845-1880) it is undeniable that people had a lot more respect for each other and their property.
