Police dog slashed while helping to apprehend robbery suspect

A Vancouver Police Dog is recovering from stab wounds in an emergency animal clinic after helping apprehend a robbery suspect.

The 7-year-old dog named Teak was tracking the suspect who had attempted to hold up the Esso gas station at Fraser Street and Marine Way.

When police tried to arrest the man, he slashed the dog with a knife, causing serious injuries.

The twenty-year-old Vancouver man is facing charges for assaulting the dog, along with robbery and weapons offenses.

He was arrested and taken to jail.

Teak is resting comfortably after surgery.  He will be retired from police service.

    Ted and Jg....when you or your family are in distress and need the support of the police...remember our pathetic comments and remember that these individuals showing up to help you out have more guts and courage in their baby then you will ever have in your life! Karma's a bitch and you weak individuals who think this dog deserved to be stabbed demonstrates to me you are both pathetic beings who are low life's.       @KarenS_12 Well said - but remember that punks like this don't think like the average resoponsible citizen. Tedw also seems to be taking the view that the punk has exhibited reasonable response behaviour in attempting to defend himself from the pain of the dog bite.
      I think in this case the police need to realize that their weapon of pursuit ( ie the dog) is another living member of their team ,and need to provide the dog with some form of body armour to protect it from the likes of this punk.

      @KarenS_12 An absolutely gutless attack on a police dog.

      Not sure of the other thoughts expressed here but if found knifing a police dog, a candidate for a taser deployment by other members that arrived on scene.
