Local supporters of the Idle No More movement plan to hold demonstrations today in Vancouver.

Protesters are set to meet at the Native Education College on East 5 Avenue near Main Street at noon.

Drumming and singing, hundreds plan to march up to City Hall, but it's not clear which route they'll take.

There, several speakers will take turns addressing the crowd, such as Liberal MP Joyce Murray, 11-year-old aboriginal activist Ta-Kaiya Blaney, and more from schools, unions and other groups.

Vancouver police plan to be there to allow the crowd to demonstrate peacefully, with minimal disruption to traffic and neighbourhood.

A demonstration at Port Metro Vancouver had been set to take place, but that may have been postponed.

I'm all for fairness, inclusion and supporting rights of one another, but this appears to be just another demand by all who think they should be entitled beyond the rest of us. Look at the list of "speakers". Nothing in common except a goal to increase their own power, status, or wealth.
    The press loves this stuff.

This is a scam-a fraud. It is based on the fairy tale that aboriginal people were living perfect, utopian lives prior to the arrival of Europeans, who then invaded and had it all handed to them with no work required. The offer the chiefs will never accept is this-let's dismantle the Dept of Indian Affairs and increase the budget by, say 10%, and then make annual, lump sum, tax free payments to each First Nation person. This payment will be the property not of the band council, but the FN person. This would automatically transfer power from the councils to the individuals. And this is something the people in the FN leadership will NEVER buy into.

FN people own nothing-it all belongs to the Band as a whole. And that means that the relationshipis a government with a people not a people with a government. And that is precisely what the NDP would want if they could have it for all of us, which is why they support this nonsense uncritically.

What is it that these people are actually demonstrating for?

I think this all started over the proposed legislation requiring the bands to make their accounting practices transparent to the federal government and public just as any other civic government does. After all this is money that is taken from tax payers and re-distributed to the Indians. How sinister to actually want to know how the money you give to a group for their well being is actually spent for their well being.

There is also a bit in the federal budget empowering individual Indians to be able to vote on what happens with their land. Imagine that. Individuals actually having control over their own land and destiny. Of course the vocal and powerful chiefs are not willing to submit to any laws that would make them more accountable. We might actually see how corrupt the reserves have become.

It's time to abolish the Indian act and get on with giving these people all the RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES that all Canadians have and are accountable for.

C'mon, guys, we need the FN people to show us the way. Didn't you know that only they are concerned about the environment, the land and all that's on it? What's a few pennies scattered here and there? Anyway, bookkeeping is a white man's invention, so why should an important person like a chief worry about it? And looking after self, family and friends first? That's part of FN culture and don't mess with culture. (of course that's Ottawa and Victoria culture as well, but we'll ignore that because they do).

So don't be shy, rush out and listen to the Idle speeches, learn and wave a feather or two, preferably one from an eagle you shot for ceremonial purposes.

We are all natives to Canada.
The movement should be renamed to "Take Canada Back"
It's not about money it's about losing our country we have to fight to get it back; the wealthy think they own us.
We have to show Harper that WE own this country, WE have to battle these wealthy together.
It would be best for everyone to support the First Nations,
everyone should bind together to battle Harper and his cronies.

    Go to school.
    Get a job.
    Start paying taxes.
Begin to take responsibility for your own well being.
Stop expecting to be taken care of from cradle to grave.
    Start contributing to society.

Here we go again every few years they whine about how hard done by they are. Look at the hunger striking chief her and her boyfriend make 270,000 bucks while her tribe lives in abject poverty. They somehow managed to piss 100 million dollars down the hole with very little to show for it and then complain its all Ottawa's fault.
It's time they start taking responsibility and clean up their own mess instead of protesting with the usual rent-a-protest left wing characters.
