A suspected rapist --accused of assaulting two women in Burnaby over the New Year's eve long weekend-- is still behind bars, but he's applying for bail Thursday January 10th.

Michael Alexander Martin of Surrey was arrested within 24-hours of the attacks recorded in South Burnaby on December 29th.

The 29-year old has been in custody since then.

He's been charged with two counts of sexual assault, as well as two more for breach of probation.

Police say the victims were sexually assaulted within three blocks of each other and less than 20 minutes apart.

So what would he have the average person believe ?

His actions were a momentary lapse of judgement caused by excessive ingestion of his drug of choice. ? That he really is a good person and he won't ever attack another woman ?

Hopefully the presiding judge will tell this monster to forget about seeing daylight for some time !

He will get a stern warning, with a strong suggestion to stay away from drugs and/or alcohol and further advice to maybe heed the rules of his probation. Oh yes, and perhaps stay away from women.....

Perhaps our less than lustrous judiciiary should take note of how the citizens of BC feel about how the public feels about safety and the existance of criminality. It's obvious to me that a lot of cynicism exists as it pertains to the coddling of criminals, by our criminal justice system - victimization of injustice to the public. It is also obvious to me that the accused did not learn anything by being out on porole for previous offences. Are our laws that blind and foolish to even consider bail? Any judge with half a brain would not. It is imparative that our judges begin to realize that they work directly for the public - despite the fact that they are appointed by the questionable agendas of the current governments. Public safety must remain paramount and should not be compromised by a judiciary who cannot tell the difference between right and wrong and get hung up on the mixed messages built into our laws. To allow a perpetrator back into the community without proper sentencing as a direct result of an absence of a dotted "i" or a crossed "t"; this is a ludicrous situation and is in itself a criminal act. It is high time that the judges were held to account for some of their stupid interpretations of the law and resulting actions of imposing a catch and release legal system - a revolving door mechanism that is not only costly, but it guarantees job security for those involved - put the judges under civilian scrutiny and control, much like our law enforcement has succumb to. Leave the judicial appointments to the politicians, but keep the control out of their manipulating hands.
