Vision Vancouver Councillor Kerry Jang admits inspite of the goal to stamp out homelessness there will always be a need for shelter space.

Jang says circumstances change, economies change and poverty is still an issue in BC so he says there will always be people on the street who need help.

Meanwhile the Province is getting set to open emergency shelters across Metro Vancouver with temperatures expected to drop below zero.

Jang says that's good news considering the HEAT shelters are full.

"these shelters simply do more than provide respite from the cold but gets people in contact with health care and housing workers and help them reunite with families or move on to the care they do need."

Jang has been visiting the HEAT shelters across the city to make sure they're complying and not disrupting nearby neighborhoods.

He says "so far, so good."

@bhappy I suspect you and I are sitting in our comfy homes too. It's a good thing that she and the government are doing something compassionate on our behalf.

Christie has earned her comfy home - there is no shame in that. And alot of the homeless choose to live on the streets, rather than the confines of a shelter.
