Vancouver City Council is doing its part to get NHL hockey back on the ice.

Councilor Geoff Meggs put forward the motion that will have the mayor send a letter to the payers and owners imploring them to get back to the table and back to playing.

Meggs denies that such a motion from is silly.

"It's a significant impact on the conomy of the city and people don't feel it's frivilous and are about to get into the playoffs everybody welcomes the opportunity to see that economic activity here"

Meggs says the motion follows in the footsteps of a similar one by Ottawa city council.

Yeah, right! Just trying to make his name known to see if the NDP will still put him as a candidate somewhere, seeing that George Heyman took the riding he wanted.

Don't take a page from the City of Abbotsf'ord's book about getting involved in professional sports teams! It's not up to any municipality to interfere in private business issues, butt out.

How about doing actual city business. You know, work that you are overpaid to do.

So goof ball meggs has left his kids bicycle and is wandering into solving the kids game of hoooookey. Isn't there another new unused goofy bike lane that they can wast money on?????

And Liza Yuzda should use spell check. If she is writing articles for the radio station she should at least read it over before printing it. I think it should be, "send a letter to the PLAYERS, not PAYERS". But that seems to be how the kids write these days!!!

@BY Ha ha. Not to mention "impact on the conomy" and "such a motion from is silly". I think she missed the literacy story.

@BY the quality of the NW journalists is as crappy as their content!

But maybe ......she really meant the PAYERS
(after all - without tickets buyers niether side nor city has anything)
and our ECONOMY is so broke they can't afford any more E's!

Maybe NW is hiring the out of work HOKEY player BILLIONAIRES to do the spell checking! Little harder than ice checking ain't it?

    Council to businesses

"Don't worry, we'll write them a letter and they will have no idea what hit them!"

That's pretty much what the message has been.

Ken280 are you Geoff Meggs' personal assistant?

Meggs should be spending time on real city hall business - the stuff he was elected to do, not writing letters about labour disputes. Maybe he thinks he's still working for the Fisherman's union.

You know if you factor in the costs of riot cleanup and repair, they are probably saving money with no hockey this year :)
