Eby finally announces NDP candidacy in Vancouver-Point Grey

Premier Christy Clark will face off against David Eby in the riding of Vancouver-Point Grey next May.

As expected, the BC Civil Liberties Association's outgoing executive director is running for the NDP, acclaimed at a meeting last night.

Clark barely won against Eby during last year's by-election.

Eby says voters may have given Clark a chance then to see what she was made of, but now it's clear where she stands – and that's to his advantage.

"Before, there was a certain amount of – well, lack of clarity, I think, about the direction in which the Liberals were going to go, and I think the NDP has set out a very clear plan. And that is to my advantage. We're very clear on Enbridge, and for people who are concerned about that issue will have a very stark choice between the Liberals and the NDP."

He will stay on with the BCCLA to do only administrative work, and help bring in a new executive director in January.

“The NDP has set out a very clear plan” - Seriusly ??? Where ???? So far the NDP has suggested the oppose anything that will increase employment. They have already promised to increase taxes and spending. Unless of course increasing taxes and raising spending IS the NDP plan in which case B.C. has been down that road before. It didn't work then and will not work now. It was scary

      @BCBrasky "........it was scary"

Was it comparable to liberal scary???? Ask all the ex-BC'ers working and/or living in Alberta?

I vote NDP provincially, but I have no use for this guy.....I hope Christie gets the spot and sits in the corner of the Legislature all by herself

"Clark barely won against Eby during last years by election" BULLSHIT! Clark won by 564 more votes compared to the 2009 provincial election where the NDP won Stikine by only 445 more votes, Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows by 274 more votes, and Burnaby Deer Lake by 512 more votes. Stop the propaganda now and relate to facts and reality. Act like adults instead of a bunch of five year olds. Unbelievable and Micky Mouse!

@joes_2868 In the two previous elections Campbell won by 2500 votes respectively and in 2001 won by 7500 votes. Barely is an appropriate adjective to use when comparing her predecessor's margins of victory to her own in what should be a safe Liberal riding.

Your use of the word propaganda would insinuate the media wants the NDP to win, when in fact all they want is to create a story. The truth is there is a story here and the good ship Christy could be going down in what should be friendly waters.

I will most definitely be voting for David again this time around.

Why you ask? Merely out of spite for Christy and I am ok with that.
    Hahaha

WLT: Over and over again. I will tell it once more. Liberal strongholds will be won Liberals. NDP strongholds will be won by NDP. No Conservatives will be elected. Whoever forms government will only have at the most a 10 seat majority over the other. Readers that think what happened to the NDP in 2001 will happen to the Liberals in the next election have to have their brains examined big time. NDP provincially only have 4 MLA's in Alberta, 9 in Saskatchewan, NDP is government in Manitoba, 17 in Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick have 0, and Newfoundland has 5. Nova Scotia does have a NDP government, but taxpayers are sending them back to opposition status in favour of a Liberal government. Readers who listen to polling also have to have their brains examined. 9 elections come and gone in Canada and not one poll correct. If the NDP does win government, then get ready to line up to make an application for EI benefits. Business does not believe in NDP governments, so in return, lay off staff. Manitoba NDP says that they don't need the HST. Yeah right! Each time they need more revenue, they add more items to their PST. Restaurant and pubs in Manitoba charge GST as well as PST. Haircuts and manicures, etc. are charged PST. Just imagine what Adrian Dix can do here in B.C. playing aroung with the PST. He could apply PST of house rennovations. Then why are we getting rid of the HST as of March 31, 2013. In summary, not one reader has given concrete answers of why it is so important to elect a NDP government when the truth is that they would be booted out in May, 2017. Let's here some concrete answers.

@joes_2868 So what happened in the riding of Chilliwack –Hope? and in the riding of Port Moody-Westwood- Port Coquitlam??? Two right wing strong holds that in two by-elections voted in two left wing MLA’s… and to think a lift wing party has never been elected before in Chilliwack-Hope huuummmmm funny

Liberals aren't exactly blazing trails lately on the natural resources projects lately are they? Only mines down south starting up are old mines that are breathing new life due too high world copper and gold prices which make the low grade ore and expensive overburden still open up profits....hardly a Liberal idea. There is new mines going in around the NW area of the Province(see prices earlier) The mine at Fish lake was turned down by the federal(conservative) Gov't and with good reason the company is re-working the proposal
The site C dam has been on the books for years and many Provincial Goverments have let it slid by and only our endless need for electricity is kick starting it. I support that going ahead too bypass the Independent power producers gouging BC Hydro.
2008 corporate/business tax rates aren't going too scare businesses too Alberta who aren't already there (for what ever reason) Would you want to live there?? only if I didn't have one of my two jobs too survive here.
Remember that in the late 1990's world markets and the Canadian $$sucked and our resource sectors took it on the chin(Provincial Gov't influence=nada) and the only Provinces that were booming was Alberta(oil prices) and Ontario from the low Canadian $ shutting auto manufacturing in the US and moving into southern Ontario

@bctaxpayer It must hurt you that you do very little with your life. I figure you do very little since your intelligence is often linked to it. With that, a Liberal or Tory government means you have to work and contribute to life. By seeing how asinine your comments are, I would guess your contribution to life is the same amount that you contribute to here with intelligence, very little.

Now, if an NDP government comes in you don't have to work and can let them take care of you.

David Eby is a plug. That's it. Those "I just like to see justice done" type lawyers are the ones that believe in doing favours because it's just not right otherwise. Really consider that when you vote!
    1. WLT posted on 11/09/2012 12:37 PM
@commonsense Very true......I would waste a ballot before I voted for him

CosmicS: That's your problem! Once again we will see who is right at about 8:45 pm on May 14, 2013. I notice that you did not absorb what I wrote. Concrete comments on why vote in a NDP government when they will be voted out in May, 2017. Don't hold back like Adrian.

bctaxpayer: DON"T HOLD BACK ON YOUR COMMENTING. ADRIAN DIX IS ALREADY DOING THAT WITHOUT TELLING US TAXPAYERS WHAT HIS PLATFORM IS. NOW B.C. TAXPAYER STOP MAKING FURTHER COMMENTS UNTIL YOU TELL US WHY WE SHOULD VOTE FOR A NDP GOVERMENT THAT WOULD BE VOTED OUT IN THE MAY 2017 ELECTION. YOU ALWAYS SHOP AROUND BY LISTENING TO CONSUMER REPORTS, SO LOOK AT THE CONSUMER REPORTS ON THE NDP FROM THE OTHER PROVINCES IN CANADA. IF YOU CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT FROM THAT, THEN YOU REALLY NEED ALOT OF HELP IN MAKING DECISIONS ON YOUR OWN INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO PROPAGANDA.
