ICBC has fired six estimators at the Richmond claims centre for breaking company policy.

The workers were canned after ICBC discovered these estimators had approved repair estimates from autobody shops over the phone, rather than by doing an in-person inspection.

Mark Jan Vrem with ICBC says the investigation has been going on for months.

"We received some information that triggered the investigation late last year and as a result we dismissed one employee in March and five others were dismissed just last week."

Jan Vrem says this didn't affect customers.

"None of our customers have been directly affected by this. This was a breach of ICBC's code of ethics, and so as a result the employees were dismissed."

Certain autobody shops were receiving more business than normal, but there's no evidence the estimators received kickbacks.
