A Vancouver man found guilty of beating his two-year-old stepdaughter to death will appeal his conviction this week.
The B.C. Court of Appeal will hear the case of David Carl Sunshine on Tuesday.
He was convicted of second-degree murder in the beating death of his toddler step-daughter back in 2005.
He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.
Sunshine had claimed the girl's death was accidental and his lawyer had tried to have the charge downgraded to manslaughter.
She died from blunt force trauma after being repeatedly punched and burned with a cigarette lighter.
