Premier Christy Clark is pushing an image of confidence as she suffered another embarrassment in the immediate resignation of her chief of staff.
Clark tries to show the BC Liberals are still in control as the next provincial election looms next spring.
Ken Boessenkool has stepped down because he was involved in “an incident where he acted inappropriately.”
When asked how this will affect the public's confidence in her government, Clark touts his replacement.
"I think the fact that Dan Doyle is coming to replace him says a lot of people's confidence in our government because Dan is a man who has devoted himself to public service for 36 years. He's connected across the country."
Clark says she launched an interview review after she learned of the incident two weeks ago.
She says she then made a decision and accepted Boessenkool's resignation.
As for what Boessenkool actually did?
"Legally, and out of respect for individuals' personal privacy, I won't be able to provide details of the incident beyond that of what I have just shared,” Clark says.
The Premier did say nothing in the incident suggested criminal conduct.
It's believed the incident stemmed from the BC Liberals' annual golf tournament two weeks ago.
Below is Boessenkool's resignation letter to the Premier, who made it public in a press release:
Earlier this month I was involved in an incident where I acted inappropriately. I was wrong, regretted my behaviour very much and immediately and unconditionally apologized.
Notwithstanding my genuine apology and sense of regret, and following my meeting with you earlier today I tender my letter of resignation as your Chief of Staff effective immediately.
This will give me a chance to return to Calgary to be with my family - who I have also let down - and from whom I have been separated on a weekly basis for most of the last eight months.
I have been very proud to be at your side and proud of what I helped the team accomplish. Nothing should stand in the way of your successful leadership and the accomplishments of your government in creating jobs and making family life affordable.
I wish you the very best.
Sincerely, Ken Boessenkool
