Vancouver's Mayor is defending plans to expand the city's network of bike lanes, but he insists consultations are ongoing.

"No decisions yet. We want to understand what kind of costs and what kind of next steps are even possible and feasible right now."

Gregor Robertson is responding to critics of a proposal to boost access for cyclists and pedestrians on the Granville and Cambie Street bridges.

"That's all part of this plan. Shaping how the city's transportation network shifts over the next couple decades."

REPORTER:"What about the consultation though? Because a lot of people that we've spoken to say that even with consultation, you're not listening to them?"

"No. That's ridiculous. we have had many months of consultation on the city's 2040 transportation plan."

Business leaders are worried about parking losses along south Granville if bike lanes are expanded.

No need to complain about this if you sat on your lazy A and didn't vote last time. It's time to STFU if you didn't vote. Save your breath.

I say big deal to this. The ultmate goal is to clog up entries into and from the downtown core. This is just part of that process. The slowest roads with the most stops? Pick the entry streets. They all suck. Why not throw some bike lanes and reduce car lanes to make it worse. That way we will take transit or speed walk to events downtown.

If you are going to B about this now, please verify you got off your A and voted for a different party and mayor.

@MisterS I can't vote for him Mister S. I don't live in Vancouver. What I will do is vote with my pocketbook. If you continue to make it difficult for me to come down to Vancouver by car then I won't. I'll stay in the suburbs and do my business there. I bet all those bike lanes will do great for you when all the Vancouver businesses close down and you have to ride your bikes to Surrey to buy things. Good luck with that.

      Boycott car hating Vancouver!

Lets see if I can predict the future - Mayor Moonbeam will continue to wreak havoc on the transportation systems in the downtown core - tearing down the viaducts, choking the roads with bike lanes ....until sanity finally prevails and he gets booted out ..then the next Mayor will spend extravagant amounts of money rebuilding the road system - back to where it was before . Bike lanes will be relegated to suburbs and low density roads.

Let's not forget what party Mayor Moonbeam and the rest of his cohorts represent. Vote NDP and get them wrecking havoc on the whole province. Last one to Alberta, get off your bike and turn out the lights!

@DonS_3209 And you're thinking there are no Bike lanes in Alberta? Calgary is building numerous lanes and taking lanes off of existing roads. Face it, almost every city is in on this conspiracy!!!
