Vancouver Police are trying to find out who attacked a homeless man near Stanley Park.

Constable Brian Montague says the 39-year-old had been sleeping under a tree near Lost Lagoon at Alberni and Chilco streets, when he was assaulted.

A police officer on patrol yesterday around 4 a.m. spotted the man walking in the 1700 block of West Georgia Street, bleeding from the head.

"The victim was taken to hospital and he was treated for lacerations to his face and a fractured skull."

Montague says the man didn't get a look at his assailant.

He adds two other homeless men have been attacked this summer, not to the same degree, but not far away, at Beach Avenue and Denman.

There doesn't appear to be a connection yet.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
