Coquitlam RCMP have got wind of a big house party planned for Friday in the Como Lake Village area.

Constable Michelle Luca says the so-called Project X party won't be going ahead after over 1000 people were invited via social media.

"Any time you get a large number of people together, you never know what's going to happen. And that's our largest concern and that's why tomorrow evening our plan is to be out there and be the party poopers."

Police in Langley were prepared for a similar mass party inspired by social media last week, but ultimately nobody showed up.

I would say large parties are every parents worse nightmare.

As the police say, young people just do not think of the
dangers of having such a large group of people, most of
them, which they do not know gathered together.

It is at these large parties alcohol andother drugs flow freely
and assaults happen more often than not.

The cellphone is a great media tool for young people to
interact, but, also, can be a detriment to their safety and
    well being.

I would say, it is a relief for most parents to hear the police are
diligently keeping an eye on such large parties and stop them
in their tracks before a serious problem arises.

Thanks to all Police in every community, who are working to
    keep our young people safe.
