A City Councillor says he's happy the City of Vancouver has listened to his calls for more garbage bins on Robson Street.
With the City now placing 12 additional bins on Robson Street, N.P.A. Councillor George Affleck says it's the right move - he just wishes he could affect change at Council rather than through speaking with reporters.

"Well it's disappointing that the way things get done at city hall now seem to be when I go to the media and complain about it because I can't get heard at city hall as a counciller, and I have to go to the media to complain so that things get done. That's not the best and most ideal way for things at city hall to be done but it seems to the way it's working for now."

Affleck spoke with CKNW in July, suggesting there should be more bins in Yaletown, the Olympic Village and along Robson Street.

Well good for him. At least something right was done in this city for once, but like he said, he had to go to the media because city hall is too incompetent to do anything right, except make useless bike lanes.

@Vancouver Sucks If you really hate it here that much why don't stfu and move to oh say Calgary, where they are madly building bicycle lanes also!! You are on the old path and most of us are on a new path!!!

All that energy and time spent for some extra garbage cans?
I guess Vancouver doesn't have any major problems to solve...

Of course we all favour having trash go into garbage cans as opposed to on our streets. However, why does the city have to provide both the trash cans and the public sector union members that they will have to hire to empty said trash cans.In my opinion, they should have used locals businesses to provide and service these cans. The city could offer them a discount on their taxes,or another incentive to participate that would be a lot cheaper than a public sector union member.Remember,in a public sector union, sweeping floors pays $30 per hour, plus benefits, plus pension. And who are,BTW,looking for a wage increase right now.
Good idea.Very poor process and execution.

@DougB_25 Don't know how a story about a few extra garbage bins can turn into a rambling rant about evil unions. I think the axe is sharp enough now.

@DougB_25 Sounds like you're a little bitter and jealous DougB.
