Everyweek Friday we speak with Colin Jack of justhereforthebeer.com about our feature beer/recipe of the week. We'll taste BC's best microbeers throughout the summer months.
This week's feature beer:
OK Spring 1516 - Okanagan Spring Brewery, Vernon, BC.
Best Features: clean and clear, an any day/every day beer!
OK Spring 1516 is one of the most popular Okanagan Spring products and it is easy to see why. This beer is clear and looks great when you pour it into a glass. The taste is smooth and clean. A slightly hoppy aroma precedes a subtle sweet start with a smooth but short bitter finish. 1516 is really light (but distinctive) and it is easy to have several in one sitting (it is a great beer to take to a party!). Drinking Okanagan Spring 1516 Bavarian Lager and reading the bottle makes me wonder: "What ingredients are in the other beers we drink?". As a beer historian, it is great to see that some companies still believe in the purity laws! This beer is very versatile and would go with a variety of foods and tastes. Try OK Spring 1516 with some smoked sausage, nachos or a white cream sauce. The clean taste and crisp mouthfeel will leave your palate refreshed. Great for all occasions.
Beer Fact: Stefan Tobler is the brewmaster and head of quality control for the OK Spring Brewery in Vernon. His father started the business as a way for his family to come to Canada from Germany.
