ADRIAN DIX REMAINS LEADER OF THE BC NDP – FOR NOW
Adrian Dix is staying put in his role of leader of the BC NDP while the party conducts a comprehensive review of the campaign. The review will look at what when wrong during the election and also at the hard lessons learned. How could the review possibly find that Adrian Dix should stay on? Does the party clearly need to re-build and re-brand in order to win the next election? Does Adrian regret his change of heart on Kinder Morgan and did he rely too heavily on what looked to be a big lead in the polls during his campaign?
ADRIAN DIX, LEADER, BC NDP

PARTY ON, VANCOUVER
The city of Vancouver is looking to hold a city-wide block party. That’s one of the 16 recommendations from the “Engaged City Task Force” with the goal of improving civic engagement and public consultation in Vancouver. Is a city-wide block party a step in the right direction to improve engagement and public interaction? The other recommendations include a mobile city hall, starting an engaged twitter account and a City of Vancouver Open Doors Day. Should improving the public consultation process be a top priority? Does Vision Vancouver have a reputation for deciding on policy before public consultations are completed? As a reporter, does it often seem that it’s hard to access information and get answers from City Hall? How “open” is city hall now? What’s their grade for openness and transparency?

ARE THE FEDS LETTING KNOWN TERRORISTS INTO THE COUNTRY?!
We have been following the case of Jose Figueroa very closely on the Bill Good Show. He legally came to BC to escape political violence in El Salvador 15 years ago and he’s married and has three kids who were all born in Canada. But the federal government has deemed him a "national security threat" due to his former ties with a group in El Salvador called the FMLN (Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front) from 20 years ago when he was a university student. The Canadian government has labeled FMLN as a terrorist organization despite the fact that during El Salvador's civil war, the organization was internationally recognized as a legitimate opposition group… and the FLMN is currently the government of El Salvador! We have recently learned that the government is allowing high ranking officials of the FMLN into Canada – just last year the Vice President of the FMLN and several other members came to Toronto and in March of this year, another high ranking member came to the country. If the government has deemed FMLN a terrorist group, why are they giving the green light for high ranking officials to come to Canada? Why are the feds deporting a former member of the FMLN (Jose) on the grounds that the FMLN is a terrorist organization while simultaneously welcoming current official members of the FMLN to Canada? Will Don Davies put this question to Public Safety Minister Vic Toews?
DON DAVIES, NDP MP, VANCOUVER-KINGSWAY (former NDP immigration critic and current international trade critic – Supports Jose)

ALAIN VIGNEAULT GETS THE BOOT
Alain Vigneault is the most successful coach in Vancouver Canucks’ history but his record didn’t prevent GM Mike Gillis from firing him yesterday. AV didn’t lead the Vancouver Canucks to a Stanley Cup victory and that’s what really matters. Is anyone shocked that AV was let go after the San Jose four game playoff sweep of Vancouver? Who will likely take over as head coach of the Canucks? And where will AV land? Should he have been fired?

DOES THE ECONOMY STILL NEED THE FED’S HELP?
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress yesterday that it’s too soon for the central bank to let interest rates rise. He says the economy would face a “substantial risk” if the Federal Reserve tightened monetary policy but not all officials agree on this course of action. Bernanke isn’t ready to pull back on stimulus – is that the right call? When will he likely change course? Will we see a market turnaround? Could this mean the start of higher interest rates, higher mortgage rates and a continuing fall in the Canadian dollar as the US dollar goes higher? Should the US Central Bank wait to see further signs of traction before taking its foot off the gas? What’s the impact for Canada’s economy?
MICHAEL LEVY, CORUS RADIO BUSINESS ANALYST

ARE CANADA’S DRUG LAWS FAILING?
Canada’s drug laws are failing according to a new report by the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition. The report found that Canada relies too heavily on law enforcement and the criminalization of people who use drugs. Instead officials are calling for a public health approach to drugs that focuses on prevention, harm reduction, and treatment. How can Canada’s drug policies be improved? Is our country overly reliant on enforcement as opposed to prevention policies?
