Nanaimo RCMP say they have recovered a body believed to be that of missing teen Makayla Chang.
The 16-year-old was last seen on March 22, and police have been conducting an extensive search for her since then.
Police have not disclosed where the body was found, but say they are treating the case as a homicide.
The Nanaimo Serious Crimes unit is handling the case.
Early in the investigation, police had said they thought Chang could have travelled to Metro Vancouver with 53-year-old Steven Bacon.
Investigators located the man and spoke with him in early April, but did not call him a suspect.
Also in April, police searched a pair of properties on Bruce Ave. for a second time.
Police would not confirm who the residence that was the focus of the search belonged to, but said Chang was known to spend time there.
