After hours of speculation and rumour, Buckingham Palace has announced that Prince Philip will no longer carry out public engagements after August of this year.
The statement goes on to say the 95-year-old Duke of Edinburgh has full support from the Queen.
An announcement of a ‘surprise meeting’ calling all Buckingham Palace staff from across the UK to London exploded on Twitter, with rumours of the reason for the meeting ranging from the potential death of a monarch to a royal wedding engagement.
The release notes Prince Philip will remain associated with more than 780 organizations, though he won’t play an active role by attending engagements.
