The duties on softwood lumber has made for some great material for late night shows.
On CBS’ Late Show with Stephen Colbert, he calls Canada “Cold Mexico… the Great White North Korea.”
Colbert explains President Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on Canada had Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr “disagrees strongly” with the decision.
“As far as I know, this is the first time anyone has rejected Justin Trudeau’s wood.”
Colbert also takes a quote delivered by Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and recites it in an over-the-top Canadian accent.
“‘The government of Canada disagrees strongly with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s decision to impose unfair and punitive duty’… ‘Disagrees strongly’… Them’s fighting words.”
The late night host follows up by saying, “Now for those keeping score at home, Trump is now a friend of Putin and an enemy of Poutine.”
