The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a 7.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Chile.
The quake struck shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, about 39 kilometres west of the city of Valparaiso.

The USGS says the earthquake hit at a depth of 10 km, and was followed by four smaller quakes in the range of magnitude 5.0.
The National Weather Service reports no tsunami warning from the quake.
No word yet on damage, injuries, or fatalities.
