Minutes before Vancouver Police were alerted to a potential bomb at the Jewish Community Centre on Tuesday night, a synagogue in Vancouver was hosting an event trying to unite people of all faiths.
Rabbi Hannah Dresner of Or Shalom was hosting of the United in Compassion event which promoted peace and tolerance.
She says some Vancouverites might not have been expecting anti-Semitism to jump over the border.
“I think people are feeling surprised that it can happen particularly, you know, here where we think of ourselves as different and free from the atmosphere of the United States at present.”
The VPD evacuated the Jewish Community Centre at 41st Avenue at Oak Street because of a bomb threat during a concert.
Investigators searched the building but found nothing.
Officers continue to investigate.
There have been 120 reported threats against Jewish organizations in the U.S. since January 9.
