A Vancouver City Councilor has put forward a motion to take another look at the proposed Commercial Drive bike lanes.
According to the motion, more than 5000 people have signed the petition for Council to consult stakeholders including small businesses about the lanes.
NPA councilor Melissa De Genova says street parking for businesses is one of the main concerns.
“One of the best things about Commercial Drive is its vibrance and the unique small local business that are family operated and have been for generations. Many of those businesses are speaking out and saying that they are concerned that they are actually going to lose business.”
The motion also asks council to direct staff to look at any negative economic impacts of the lanes.
Vision Vancouver councilors have not responded to a request for comment.
