Sunset Beach will again be the site of Vancouver’s annual 420 marijuana ‘protestival.’
That’s according to one of its organizers on Twitter, who also calls it a “much better location for our massive event than overcrowded Art Gallery grounds,” but the Vancouver Park Board is saying ‘not so fast.’
The board isn’t completely ruling it out, but Park Board Chair Michael Wiebe says he doesn’t want to see the acrimony we saw last year when the board opposed the Sunset Beach location only to find itself without any support from the city, and 420 taking place there regardless.
“We’re trying to make sure that we can make it work instead of just saying ‘no,’ that doesn’t help… What happened last year was people battling it out in the media, that’s not what we’re looking for, what I’m looking for this year is trying to find a solution so we can have a long term strategy moving forward,” Wiebe says.
He says an Event Permit Application, with a smoking bylaw exemption request, goes before the board to be discussed Monday night.
