Canucks winger Jannik Hansen is packing his bags and heading for the beach.
The veteran Dane has been traded to the San Jose Sharks for 21-year-old prospect Nikolay Goldobin, along with a 2017 4th round pick.
The young Russian left winger played his first season with the Sharks in 2015/16, putting up two points in nine games. He was held pointless in his two games with the Sharks this season, but has put up 15 goals and 26 assists in 46 games with their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
Hansen was a healthy scratch in tonight’s match-up with Detroit, fueling early speculation he may be on the trading block.
But he’ll get at least one more chance to catch up with his former linemates sooner than you might expect: the Canucks face off against the Sharks in San Jose this Thursday.
It’s the second member of the team’s 2011 cup-contending core to be dealt away in as many days. Teammate Alex Burrows was dealt to the Ottawa Senators yesterday, with the Canucks getting forward prospect and 2016 2nd round pick Jonathan Dahlen in exchange.
The announcement was made Tuesday night when the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2.
