It’s another case of hot-headed parents at a kids’ hockey game, but this time in Burnaby.
Online tweets say parents of the entire North Vancouver Minor peewee hockey team were banned from the Burnaby Lake Arena following an incident on Saturday where parents were allegedly ‘abusing’ young officials.
Tweets also say police were at the rink addressing the situation.
Terry Shein with the Burnaby Winter Club says threats were made to referees from parents the from North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association.
“The Burnaby Minor Hockey Association and BWC sanctioned the entire parent and guardian team of the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association pewee A14 team. Someone in BC Hockey felt it was necessary to have Burnaby RCMP attend to keep the peace and enforce the ban.”
BC Hockey says it’s investigating the incident.
Two years ago, abusive parents started to become a problem within the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association, which eventually added a ‘code of conduct’ for parents that includes consequences like arena bans.
