It’s another warning about the need for proper and adequate travel insurance.
The daughter of an elderly B.C. woman who was injured while travelling in California is warning others after a life-changing incident.
A 74-year-old woman was on a road-trip with her husband when a vehicle struck them, killing him and leaving her seriously injured.
But after spending almost a month in a California hospital, her daughter told Global News her mom’s bills began to pile up.
Mitzy Bryson says both her parents had $500,000 each in travel insurance, but they still owe money.
“Yeah, a little over $160,000…so yeah, it’s a bit concerning but we’ll find it and we’ll get there.”
She says most people don’t think about the amount they are insured for.
“You would think half-a-million dollar coverage is a lot of coverage, it’s not when you go to the U.S., or any other countries, it’s not. It makes my husband and I rethink things you know? That when we travel we hope that you know, we never have to put our children through this, so we definitely would go with at least a couple million each.”
She says her mom’s medical bill was more than 400 pages long.
