Who knew the new City of Vancouver logo would face so much criticism?
More than 80 locals from the design and digital community have penned an open letter to Mayor Gregor Robertson and Council members, urging them to rethink the new roll out.
The letter says the City “severely failed to produce an inspirational mark.”
“Vancouver is such a unique place, with its unique story to tell, I’m hoping a logo can tell some of that story. Of course, it has to do other things like simply communicate but I was hoping to see something that would make me feel proud.”
Designer Brock Ellis is comparing Vancouver’s new logo to those of other cities.
“The City of Chilliwack logo, if you take the mountain off, it kind of looks a lot like the new City of Vancouver logo. It’s about standing out and really defining our own identity.”
A report says the City hired a company that submitted the lowest bid for the project at $8000.
The City said one of its goals was to make the new logo easily recognizable for those whose first language isn’t English.
