Despite no mention in the government’s throne speech about failures in the Ministry for Children and Families, B.C.’s Finance Minister says the ministry will be a priority in next week’s budget.
Mike de Jong says some ministries are facing caseload pressures, including the Ministry for Children and Families.
He says the government is ready to act on recommendations made by the Plecas Review and Grand Chief Ed John.
“All spoke to some included some fairly significant recommendations about additional…the need for additional resources and we are anxious to address that and will in the budget.”
De Jong says we’ll have to wait until next week’s budget to see how much money that will involve.
Just last week children’s watchdog Bernard Richard released a damning report about the life and death of Metis teen Alex Gervais.
It detailed him being failed time and time again by the ministry in the years he was under the care of the government.
